PickPluck

Built-in mini-browser: easy navigation of web to find & select pages of pictures to Download . No JavaScript, so no popups! Just right-click on any URL and you'llbe Download& images instantly! This also allows you to "log-in" to CGI-based sites, so you can process them now. Multiple window interface: you can now Download  from multiple URLs simultaneously using multiple PicPluck windows. Use the standard CTRL-F6 to switch between windows.

Image cache: PicPluck remembers every document & image you've visited since starting PicPluck, so nothing is ever Download& twice. So when you're browsing with the mini-browser, and you decide to Pluck a page, the images you've already seen in the browser won't have to be Download& again! The cache is not stored on disk, only in memory.

(The best image viewer freeware of the 90's)

IrfanView is a compact, easy to use image viewer. More than that, you can also edit images directly in IrfanView, to produce a variety of effects. IrfanView was created by Irfan Skiljan.

Comment: Irfan Skiljan has undoubtedly produced one of the best freeware of the 90's. I don't know if Irfan did makes a fortune, but his work will remain a exemplary story case,  of a talented student gaining a world recognition, offering a free product WW's superiority,  from a little village, lost in the Croatian hills. That, is an example of  wonderful potential of evolution   offered by the WWW.        
Irfan remain one of WW's best, and definitely my basic explorer integrated image viewer. IrfanView allows to follows the image to other graphic editor.
The basic edition can compare with heavy editor's basic results. Merci Irfan.

ImageN transfers images from a memory card (PC Card, PCMCIA card) or a Digital Still Camera to the computer's hard disk. Optionally, the program renames the transferred images and processes them using Photoshop® plug-ins.
¨    The program features a multi-window image viewer/editor and full support for 32-bit Photoshop® or compatible filter plug-ins.
¨    imageN includes a database that keeps track of images. The database contains small pictures (thumbnails) of each image file. It's fast and capable of holding thousands of thumbnails.

Movies Lite is a freeware GIF Animator. It will produce an animated GIF-file from a series of ready made BMP, GIF or JPG images, or you can Create Frames within Movies. Both imported frames and frames created from scratch can be edited in the Frames Editor.

Movies is written by Jan Verhoeven with Delphi 5.
